Water was as an important source of life and was of the most important items for survival after 2009 Chicago Earthquake in the original premise of I Am Alive.
It was originally used by Adam Collins to create a major distraction for several men chasing him in the cinematic trailer that debuted in 2008. In standard gameplay, water would've been used to restore the health of the player.
